Announcements:

We are planning on adding a nice selection of new molds this year, but first we have a lot of work to do, so please be patient and watch for them here. You will be happy to see what we have coming soon. Also keep in mind that a few molds will be discontinued to make room for the new molds. So if there’s something you “have to have” you might want to consider getting it before it’s gone.

If you like Mad About Molds you will love our other websites!

Featured Molds:

No matter how cold it is, the true fact is that “Spring is coming!” There’s plenty of time to start thinking about Easter and Mother’s Day. We have all of up-coming holiday molds listed here.

Pasta Machine Settings?

Have you ever wondered about how thick a sheet of clay is by using numbered settings on your machine?

If you have a pasta machine, have you ever wondered about how thick a sheet of clay is by using numbered settings on your machine? Here's your answer...

· #1 = 1/8" or 3.2mm

· #2 = 7/64" or 2.8mm

· #3 = 3/32" or 2.4mm

· #4 = 5/64" or 2.0mm

· #5 = 1/16" or 1.6mm

· #6 = 1/32" or 0.8mm

· #7 = 1/40" or 0.6mm

Why Molds are a GREAT Value!

In a tough economy, people look for ways to save money. Molds can be a great value to you, by allowing you to create a multitude of castings with just one mold. Also consider the many ways to use molds on our “Creative Ideas Page” to get the most out of your molds.

Here’s just a few reasons why molds are a great value.

• Save by making your own embellishments, instead of purchasing them new.
• Save by making an endless supply of castings for your favorite projects.
• Save by staying home, instead of going out for your entertainment and relaxation.
• Save by selling your creations, as an extra income for your family.
• Save by using many everyday items found around your house as molding tools.
• Save by creating personal gifts, instead of purchasing store bought.

5 Year-End Tax Tips

As the year is winding down, you can still make decisions that may lower your tax bill. Here are five for you to consider with input from your accountant:

1. Review your business books. You need a clear picture of your earnings and expenses before you make any decisions. Ask your accountant or bookkeeper if you should be tracking something you aren’t.

2. Defer income. Unless you expect to make considerably more income in 2011 when our tax rates will likely be higher, you might want to defer income until after the first of the year. If this is the case, send out your invoices late this month so you won’t receive payment until January.

3. Increase your expenses. Stock up on business equipment and supplies before year end. Pay some of your bills early.

4. Contribute to your retirement plan. Review requirements for payments to your plan. If you don’t already have an individual 401(k), you may want to set up one before the end of the year.

5. Give. Charitable donations are tax deductible if you have a receipt.

These strategies apply differently to each business owner based on her particular situation. Since I’m not a financial professional, take time to discuss your strategy with your personal tax adviser.

Creative Slumps

We've all been there... The crafting doldrums, slumps, ruts, burn-out, whatever you choose to call it - It all means the same thing: Lack of inspiration, no spark... No get-up-and-go ! If you are crafting as a business, this means no money coming in . Which can make you feel depressed, which sinks you even deeper into the slump.

Anti-Slump Remedies

1. One solution is to just ride it out - First and foremost Crafters love crafting and eventually will again get the urge to create.

But what if you can't afford to wait for inspiration to strike?

2. Go to a craft show. There's nothing like the fun of visiting a show and being surrounded by all of that creativity to get you back in the mood to create.

3. Go to a craft supply store, take your time and walk the aisles. Soak up the crafty atmosphere!

4. Search through the clearance bins at the craft store and stock up on some bargains. It won't break the bank and those odds and ends may be just the thing to get you started.

5. Buy some new supplies that you won't be able to resist using.

6. Stop by your favorite craft shop and search through the pattern packets and books. Surf around online, tons of patterns and techniques are available for free. Keep searching until you find something that gets you excited about crafting.

7. Learn a new craft.

8. Think about what it is about crafting that makes you happy, and focus on that until you recapture the "spark".

9. Look through craft sale literature and supplier catalogs.

10. If all else fails, wait until the next major holiday is closing in and let the "holiday panic" propel you into action. There is nothing like a deadline to get you moving.

Whatever methods you try, don't let negative thoughts and emotions get you down. Slumps are an inevitable part of crafting, either as a hobby or as a business. Eventually the slump will pass, the spark will re-ignite, and you will re-discover the fun!
